Fractions

a) Petra ate two-fifths (2⁄5) of a pizza and Sarah ate one-fifth (1⁄5).

  3/5 was eaten because 2/5 + 1/5 is 3/5.

b) Lima and Paul each had the same sized cake. Lima ate four-fifths (45) of his cake 7/5 and Paul ate three-fifths (35) of his cake. Show how to work out how much cake they ate altogether.

7/5 was eaten because 3/5 + 4/5 = 7/5.

c) Bill ate one-fifth (15) of a whole apple pie. Show how to work out how much pie was left.

4/5.

d) Andrew started with one and a half pizzas (1 12) and ate three-quarters (34) of a whole pizza. Show how to work out how much pizza is left.

3/4.

For this task I had to figure out the answer to all these fraction problems and it was a little hard but then I finished all of them.

  1. Hi Joanna,

These are all correct. Well done. How did you work them out? Did you add the numerator first and then the denominator?
